Brian Stephens
Chemist

Brian has over ten years of experience in stack sampling and sample analysis. He has been a part of sampling programs at several power plants around the country. Brian is experienced in the controlled condensation procedure for sulfur trioxide (SO3) in flue gas. He also is experienced in sampling for anions (Method 26 and 26a), metals (Method 29), and mercury (Ontario Hydro and carbon traps).

Brian has an extensive background in analytical chemistry, having been a co-op at the Alabama Power laboratory while in college. He has experience in operating instruments such as AA spectrometers, mercury analyzers, and bomb calorimeters. In addition, he has experience in wet chemistry methods for water and scrubber slurry analyses.

Recently Brian has been heavily involved in scrubber and wastewater projects for Southern Company. His duties include setting up and maintaining pilot systems, preparing solutions, and performing analytical tests as needed. Brian has demonstrated an ability to quickly troubleshoot and solve problems during these projects. This has earned him much respect among the sponsors of these projects.
