Dr. Ralph F. Altman
Principal Technical Advisor

Ralph is currently the Principal Technical Advisor for PCT Inc. (Particulate Control Technologies, Inc.). His responsibilities include working as a PCT team member to characterize particulate, SOX, and trace element emissions from utility boilers, and aid in the identification and application of minimum cost technologies to help customers solve emission problems.

Dr. Altman worked for Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) foremost as a Project Manager and then as a Senior Project Manager. While at EPRI, he accumulated over 30 years of experience managing the research and development of electrostatic precipitator technologies, other particulate control technologies, as well as the development of scrubber monitoring systems. Under his direction, several new particulate control technologies were successfully developed from laboratory pilot testing to commercial application. In his current position, Ralph assists in the direction of projects for power producers to help characterize and reduce a broad range of air and water emissions.

Ralph holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy in Physics Degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Previous experience includes participation as a research engineer in the development of alternate energy systems at the Georgia Tech Research Institute and working as a stress analyst at Combustion Engineering (now Alstom).

Dr. Altman has authored and co-authored papers in the Journal of Air and Waste Management Association and Physical Review, as well as numerous papers in conference proceedings. He also co-authored the chapter on electrostatic precipitation in the Electronic Encyclopedia published by John Wiley and Sons. He holds over 15 patents in the particulate control area and related fields. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the International Society for Electrostatic Precipitation (ISESP). He has been named an International Fellow by the latter organization, is a member of the Board of Directors of the ISESP, and was ISESP treasurer for four years.
